501 Carriage House Lane

The Carriage House, measuring 50 x 80 feet, built in 1895, is of colonial style. Five box stalls, harness and carriage rooms, and a carriage wash room were located on the first floor. Upstairs there was a room for a hostler and large lofts and bins for hay and grain.

The barn was converted into the Keeley Club House by 1919 when the Livingston Hotel was leased for the Veteran’s Hospital, and Mrs. Bennett’s house across the street was remodeled to accommodate the Keeley office. The front porch was added at this time. Through this door was the billiard room. Entry through the east door would lead to the doctor examination room and laboratory. The injections were administered on the main floor. Upstairs the gymnasium was at the front or north side, while the lockers were at the back or south side.

In 1987-1988, Jim and Richard Oughton donated the Carriage House to the Village of Dwight to be used as a library. The building was remodeled and reopened in 1990 as the Prairie Creek Public Library
