In July 1858, the Dwight Old Town Cemetery was laid out by a committee consisting of Nelson Cornell, Henry Conant, and R.P. Morgan. In September of the same year, Mr. Conant was buried here. As early as 1854, when cholera ravaged the area and burial places were needed, graves were dug on this land owned by Henry’s father, John Conant.
John Conant signed a deed for one acre of his land to be a burial ground. This was approved, after Conant’s death, at a Township meeting in 1860.
