Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001

The Ambler-Becker Texaco Station has been identified as the longest operating Route 66 station. Built in 1933, it served motorists on the Mother Road for 66 years, closing in 1999. Basil “Tubby” Ambler operated the station from 1938 to 1966. When he was 13 years old, Phil Becker began hanging out at the station where he worked during and after high school. He eventually bought the business. In 2002, Phil and his wife Debbie donated the station to the Village of Dwight.

After extensive renovation, the Ambler-Texaco Station now serves as Dwight’s Visitors Center where each year, volunteers greet thousands of Route 66 travelers from all over the world.
